         Colloidal Silver in various forms was used as a mainstream medicine in the late 1800's and early 1900's. It was replaced by modern antibiotics in the mid 1900's and rediscovered in the 1980's and 1990's. As an unapproved new drug or a nutritional supplement, depending on the language used to describe it, it was an orphan looking for a home. It did, however, attract a lot of attention.          Silver, silver colloids, and silver salts have a long history of use in medicine as antiseptics and antibiotics. Some forms of colloidal silver are so easy to make that anyone can make them in their kitchen. The potential of having a super antibiotic that anyone can make for pennies in their kitchen has caught the interest of many individuals.

         Colloidal Silver is not approved by the FDA. It is, however, widely sold as a nutritional supplement. When it is sold as a nutritional supplement, colloidal silver manufacturers are banned from providing consumers any information about its safe and effective usage.
